Soluble Fish :: digital poetics

Steam, Light, Grid

An elaborate voodle. It took most of a Sunday, but great satisfaction moving panels around the grid. The “pixelate” effect generates a rich map on which to work and then it is a matter of intuitively putting on layers and rendering to see what happens.

The audio is made up of tracks from Eno and Byrne’s My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, which are available for free download and remixing. Imagine if all musicians offered this from their back catalog.

Also woven through the audio are Dava Sobel’s “Street Five.” (via Negative Sound Institute) and city textures from Freesound.

I didn’t know that effects like that were even possible. Really amazing!

You’ve moved the idea of the always-moving television background to heights it never meant to go.

Bravo.

amazingly beautiful!! I wish mine would turn out like that. how do you get the video quality so high? is it hd source material and rendered out? I’ve been trying some multiple projector tests in isadora (which is better for live video than saving to a file) to try overlapping videos but I can’t get them to look anywhere near as spectacular as yours!!

I love the My life in the bush of ghosts album too – so many memories from it. the way you remixed it perfectly matched your work.
